Global expansion

The first RE/MAX region outside the United States and Canada was the Caribbean Basin, opened in 1991. It was followed two years later by RE/MAX of Mexico. In 1995, RE/MAX expanded into Southern Africa, Spain, Israel, Italy and Germany. Since then, RE/MAX regions have become established across Europe, in Asia and in Australia.

Record RE/MAX production

In 1999 RE/MAX Associates were involved in more than 1 million sales transaction sides within a single year in the United States alone - an industry milestone. The audited production figures represent the most transaction sides in a single year ever recorded by any real estate network. The RE/MAX network is now involved in over 2 million sales transactions per year.

The RE/MAX concept

RE/MAX stands for "real estate maximums."

In exchange for paying a management fee and a share of the monthly office overhead, RE/MAX Associates keep the maximum allowed amount of their commissions and receive the many benefits of RE/MAX programs and services.

By offering Associates maximum commissions and maximum career freedom, RE/MAX influenced competitors to re-examine and adjust their own policies toward sales agents, thus dramatically changing the industry.

As the network grew, renowned for its top producers and quality service to consumers, so did support programs, making RE/MAX a dynamic force in real estate education and technology.

The organization was one of the first real estate companies to have its own proprietary television network and one of the first in the industry to develop a site on the World Wide Web.

RE/MAX of Western Canada offers a variety of tools to jump-start your career. The following is a list of courses and training available for both new and experienced agents.

Sales Associate Orientation (SAO) - Understanding the RE/MAX System

This program is designed for sales associates new to RE/MAX. The extensive orientation guides associates through all the tools and resources available within the RE/MAX System. SAO is held 10 times a year.

Brian Buffini's 100 Days to Greatness

Brian Buffini introduces an agent training program. Featuring a dynamic, step-by-step curriculum, it teaches the fundamentals of lead generation. 100 Days to Greatness will help you produce a consistent stream of high-quality referrals.

This is a 14-week training/accountability program, featuring the following:/

  • Five 90-minute video segments with specific action steps assigned each day.
  • Step-by-step program on how to generate leads quickly and consistently.
  • Course materials, including dynamic marketing tools and supplies.
  • An intense course in the fundamentals of doing business by referral, including specific dialogs and interactive role play.

The course includes a number of workbooks, videos and CDs. Dave Liniger, Chairman of the Board & Co-Founder of RE/MAX International has to say about the program.

Brian Buffini's 100 Days to Greatness is an outstanding program for real estate associates at all levels of experience. For beginners seeking a solid foundation and that "path to success" and for veteran agents looking to take their careers to new and higher levels of production, Brian Buffini provides solid, useable and proven techniques for greatness in the real estate business. Unquestionably, this is a course I recommend for the serous and career-minded real estate agent.


RE/MAX Mainstreet is a "members-only Extranet web site" designed exclusively for the RE/MAX organization, providing a world of resources to help solve problems, retrieve information and access the ongoing efforts to improve the RE/MAX products and services.

This site is only open to RE/MAX Affiliates, RE/MAX Employees, and RE/MAX Approved Suppliers. The basic components of this site are: a Forum Messaging area for online discussion threads, a Chat area for real-time exchanges and conferences and a Library area for documents, forms, and other resource material submitted by RE/MAX Affiliates and RE/MAX International. Future phases of this site will bring many levels of communication, electronic commerce and file sharing.

Access to this site is now free to RE/MAX Affiliates. Once "inside" RE/MAX Mainstreet, your options will be determined by your position with RE/MAX. A Sales Associate, for instance, will encounter Associate-oriented services, while a Broker/Owner will have access to a private Broker/Owners area as well. All Affiliates will be able to use the RE/MAX Approved Supplier area.
Merging the latest technology and state-of-the-art facilities with the vast body of knowledge contained both within the network and with industry experts, RE/MAX University is the industry's best training program for real estate professionals.
Virtually every great idea in the history of RE/MAX has come from RE/MAX Affiliates. RE/MAX University is the means of taking this wealth of knowledge, consolidating it in a central location – the new RE/MAX Global Education Center in Denver – and passing it back to Affiliates in the form of videos, live classes, downloads, podcasts and more.


RE/MAX University has three basic methods of transmission:

Training On Demand
Elements include streaming videos from the RE/MAX Satellite Network, downloads, and video and audio podcasts. The on-demand component includes Agent Training On Demand (ATOD).

Agent Training On Demand - Channels include In Focus (hot topics updated weekly), Best Biz Practices, Teams, Technology and Coaching. Segments include clips from RSN programs and RE/MAX conventions, along with full RSN programs by some of real estate's top coaches. A new In Focus segment is introduced each week.

The RE/MAX Global Education Center in Denver allows for regular classroom sessions. Offerings include:

  • Courses on Mainstreet, the RE/MAX Design Center and LeadStreet®
  • Dozens of educational sessions at RE/MAX International conventions and conferences
  • Seminars by top trainers, including Brian Buffini and Judy LaDeur

The RE/MAX Satellite Network (RSN), which launched in 1994, is the foundation of RE/MAX University. RSN beams 60 hours of programming each month via satellite to subscribing offices in North America. Additionally, through EchoStar’s DISH Network, U.S. Affiliates receive RSN programming free in their homes. RSN programming areas include Business, Courses, Internet Marketing, Technology and Management.

Nearly 30,000 Associates have completed courses leading to professional designations such as the ABR, CCIM, CLHMS, CRB, CRS and SRES. Additionally, more than 6,000 Affiliates have completed "Brian Buffini’s 100 Days to Greatness - RE/MAX Edition," which airs monthly. It's good for continuing education credit in 15 states.

The "RE/MAX Coaching Hall of Fame" series, airing live in prime time the second Tuesday of most months, features top trainers including Howard Brinton, Brian Buffini, Judy LaDeur, Richard Robbins and RE/MAX International’s Dave Liniger and Margaret Kelly.
