RE/MAX SALES ASSOCIATES DONATE $2.5 MILLION TO CHILDREN´S MIRACLE NETWORK IN 2004
Kelowna, British Columbia -- Dedication, commitment, and sheer determination helped RE/MAX sales associates raise a record $2.5 million for Children's Miracle Network 14 member hospitals and foundations across Canada in 2004.
The contribution topped last year's donation of just over $2.2 million dollars, an increase of nearly 14 per cent. The Canadian contribution represented close to 30 per cent of the overall $8.1 million RE/MAX donated throughout North America last year.
"RE/MAX real estate professionals believe in giving back to the communities in which they live and work," says Helga Wendt, Manager, Regional Administration and Children's Miracle Network Liaison for RE/MAX of Western Canada. "It's more than a donation to a worthy cause, it's an investment in the future of our children. With RE/MAX, home is truly where the heart is."
The vast majority of proceeds were raised through successful Miracle Home Program, a program whereby sales associates donate a portion of their commission on each home they sell towards Children's Miracle Network. RE/MAX offices also organized separate events, from golf tournaments and boat cruises to silent actions to raise funds for the cause.
"For more than a decade, RE/MAX sales associates have helped millions of youngsters and their families in children's hospitals across the country," says Christine Martysiewicz, Director of Public Relations, RE/MAX Ontario-Atlantic Canada. "The Children's Miracle Network is woven into the culture of our organization. It's part of our past. It's part of our future."
"We´re overwhelmed by the record-breaking results of the RE/MAX fundraising efforts in 2004," says John Hartman, Senior Vice President, Canadian Operations, Children´s Miracle Network. "RE/MAX, its real estate agents, brokers and staff have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to the health and welfare of children across Canada. Over two million youngsters say thank you to RE/MAX and its customers for the success of the Miracle Home Program, local events, sponsorship and innovative initiatives that raise funds and awareness. It goes a long way toward ensuring that every child has the greatest possible opportunity to live a long, happy and healthy life."
In Canada, the funds raised on behalf of Children's Miracle Network help support research, outreach programs, and medical equipment. The member hospitals and foundations supported by Children's Miracle Network include: B.C.'s Children's Hospital Foundation, Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation (Calgary), Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation (Edmonton), Children's Health Foundation of Saskatchewan, The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, Sick Kids Hospital Foundation, McMaster Children's Hospital, Children's Health Foundation, Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario, IWK Health Centre Foundation, Janeway Children's Hospital Foundation, and Opération Enfant Soleil. Since 1992, RE/MAX sales associates nationwide have contributed over $18 million to the cause.

RE/MAX SUPPORTS ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS
Kelowna, British Columbia -- RE/MAX of Western Canada is proud to support Organ Donor Awareness Week, April 17-23 designated by the national transplant societies. RE/MAX of Western Canada is partnered with www.givelife.ca and is committed to helping in spreading the word for this worthy cause. Givelife.ca is Canada's national organ donation website, providing a portal to all organ, tissue, blood and bone marrow programs throughout Canada and helps to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. There is a critical shortage of registered organ donors in Canada. For example, in British Columbia according to the BC Transplant Society, approximately one of every three organs appropriate for transplant is lost because people do not register their wishes to become donors. Currently, 300f the patients waiting for a transplant will not survive and without an increase in registered donors, this percentage will only increase.
"We are privileged to partner with such an outstanding cause, whose plight is solely communicating the needs of those on organ donation wait lists in Canada," said Elton Ash, Regional Vice President, RE/MAX of Western Canada. "We hope that our joint venture with www.givelife.ca will help reach Canadians who have yet to register, and in doing so, will help save lives of many Canadians."
There are 4,000 Canadians awaiting life-saving organ transplants today. Thousands of others are awaiting cornea transplants, bone marrow transplants and of course, donated blood. They would all benefit from improved public education and awareness.
